Many of the countries do not classify themselves as Arab (or at least a lot of their citizens) down to their intense history for example, many Lebanese will classify themselves as Phoenician, and countries like Mauritania, Libya, Algeria, Egypt Morocco etc will classify themselves as North African - all rejecting the Arab status due to the negative connotations that also come with it. Although there are some countries that share similarities, for example the Levant countries: Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Syria or the Gulf countries such as Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar. Oman and Yemen also have similarities to one another
